Some couples can point to a specific moment when they knew.

A first date. A first kiss. A grand romantic gesture.

Lauryn and Kishan's story feels a little different than that. Their relationship wasn't built on a single defining moment. Instead, it grew steadily over time, rooted in friendship, trust, and the kind of connection that develops when two people genuinely enjoy being around each other.

The two first met while attending Marquette University in Milwaukee. At the time, neither of them knew they were meeting the person they would eventually marry. In fact, they didn't even start dating in college.

Their story began as friends.

One of my favorite details from their story comes from a party Lauryn was hosting. Kishan happened to stop by, and before long she had essentially recruited him to serve as unofficial security, helping encourage lingering guests to head home at the end of the night. It wasn't exactly a scene from a romantic comedy, but then again, the best love stories rarely follow a script.

As graduation approached and life began pulling everyone in different directions, their friendship continued to deepen. Somewhere along the way, friendship quietly evolved into something more.

What makes their story even better is that neither of them planned to stay in Milwaukee after college. Like so many students, they assumed graduation would lead them elsewhere. Instead, they both happened to find jobs in the area, put down roots, and discovered that Milwaukee was becoming home.

And thankfully for all of us, because of that unexpected twist, their paths continued forward together.

What They Love Most About Each Other

One of my favorite questions to ask couples is what they love most about their partner.

The answers almost always tell me more about a relationship than any timeline, questionnaire, or wedding detail ever could.

When Kishan talks about Lauryn, what stands out most is her optimism and enthusiasm for life. He describes her as someone who is always excited about something, always looking forward to the next experience, and always encouraging the people around her to get out and enjoy life. Whether it is trying something new, planning an adventure, or simply finding a reason to make an ordinary day more interesting, Lauryn brings an energy that keeps life moving forward.

When Lauryn talks about Kishan, she immediately speaks about how deeply he cares for others. She describes him as a protector and caretaker who is constantly looking out for family and friends, making sure the people he loves feel safe, healthy, supported, and cared for. He is the kind of person who quietly steps in when help is needed, often without drawing attention to himself.

Listening to them describe each other, it becomes easy to see why they work so well together.

Lauryn brings excitement, curiosity, and a willingness to embrace whatever comes next.

Kishan provides the steady support and care that allows everyone around him to feel secure.

Together, they create a partnership that encourages growth while never losing sight of the people who matter most.

Two Wedding Ceremonies, One Beautiful Celebration

On June 6, 2026, Lauryn and Kishan celebrated their marriage through both a Hindu ceremony and a Lutheran ceremony, honoring the traditions, families, and histories that helped shape who they are today.

One of the things I love most about photographing multicultural weddings is seeing how couples thoughtfully weave together the people and traditions that matter most to them. Rather than feeling like two separate events, the day felt like a reflection of their relationship itself. Different backgrounds, different experiences, and different traditions all coming together to create something stronger than either could have built alone.

Throughout the day there was an overwhelming sense of family, not only in the traditional sense, but in the way both Lauryn and Kishan care for the people around them. Every interaction seemed to reinforce what they had already shared with me during our conversations leading up to the wedding.

These are two people who genuinely show up for others.

And on their wedding day, those people showed up right back for them.

The Contract That Might Be My Favorite Wedding Document Ever

Every couple has inside jokes that become part of their relationship's language.

The little stories and references that nobody else fully understands.

For Lauryn and Kishan, one of those ongoing jokes involves living until the age of 80 and enjoying a long, prosperous life together.

Rather than simply mentioning it during the wedding day, Lauryn decided to turn the joke into something tangible.

She surprised Kishan with a contract. Yes, an actual contract. One where he asked “Did ______ help you write this?” and Lauryn shrugged and said “maybe”.

The document outlined their commitment to living long, happy lives together, and during a quiet moment they both signed it.

To my complete delight, I was then asked to serve as the official witness. That was such a treat and honor !

Of all the beautiful traditions woven throughout the day, this might have been one of the most meaningful moments to witness because it felt so completely authentic to who they are. There were no expectations attached to it. It wasn't a performance. It wasn't something they did for guests or photos.

It was simply a reflection of their relationship.

There was laughter, there was affection, and there was that unmistakable look couples share when they have built years of inside jokes, shared experiences, and mutual understanding together.

Those are the moments I find myself thinking about long after a wedding day is over.

Not because they are elaborate. Because they are honest.

A Wedding Day That Felt Completely Theirs

As I look back on Lauryn and Kishan's wedding day, what stands out most is how naturally every piece of it reflected who they are.

Their story began with friendship before growing into something deeper. Their wedding honored multiple traditions without losing sight of what mattered most. Their families and friends surrounded them with support, and throughout the day there were countless reminders of the qualities they admire in one another.

Lauryn's optimism was everywhere.

Kishan's care for others was impossible to miss.

Together they created a celebration that felt joyful, intentional, and deeply personal.

Lauryn and Kishan, thank you for trusting me to document such an important chapter of your lives. It was an honor to witness the traditions, the laughter, the happy tears, and yes, the contract that may very well be one of the most memorable documents I have ever signed.

I have no doubt the future you are building together will be filled with new adventures, unwavering support, and many more inside jokes that only the two of you fully understand.

Although if that contract works as intended, I expect both of you to be causing trouble together for at least the next several decades.

The Energy of a Baraat and the Joy of Traditional Indian Wedding Celebrations

One of the highlights of the day was experiencing the incredible energy that surrounds a Baraat.

For anyone unfamiliar, a Baraat is the groom's wedding procession, where family and friends accompany him to the ceremony through music, dancing, and celebration. It is impossible to witness one without smiling. What begins as a procession quickly becomes a party, with generations of family members filling the streets and dance floor alike.

At the end of the day just before the dance floor opened, Kishan’s sister-in-law took the lead leading up to the wedding and taught some key players some dances for the wedding to help kick off the night. These dances created some of the most joyful moments to photograph. There is a beautiful sense of participation woven into these traditions.

Guests are not simply watching from the sidelines. They are dancing, cheering, laughing, and actively becoming part of the celebration itself. The result is an atmosphere filled with movement, connection, and genuine excitement, which made Lauryn and Kishan's wedding an unforgettable experience for everyone fortunate enough to be there.
